Saint Lucia celebrates its 40th Independence Anniversary on February 22nd, 2019 with a year long celebration. On the 21st and 22nd February, we will celebrate in grande style. Our theme for the year is,
Our Journey, Our Future
Throughout the year, we will celebrate our vast achievements in education, culture, sports and agriculture over the preceding decades.
We honour our heroes and Nobel Laureates; Sir Arthur Lewis and Sir Derek Walcott. Our official launch will coincide with the celebration of the Feast of St. Lucy, Festival of Lights and the Lantern Parade. In December we will experience an explosion of lights around the island, and our cerulean blue, white, black and yellow flag colours, will cover every building and fly high on the peaks of our mountains.
In December, our calendar of events will be unveiled. Look forward to cultural balls, sporting events, horse races, youth debates, business open houses, gala, homecoming activities, a parade of the Best of Saint Lucia and an open-air concert with performances from the best of our island.
We anticipate the very best from our musicians, artistes, folk dancers, chefs and poets as we celebrate everything Saint Lucian.
As we celebrate forty years of change, development, progress, we invite all Saint Lucians to be ALL IN! This is Our Journey, Our Future!
This 40th Independence Committee is chaired by the Honourable Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre, President of the Senate.
